"We
must abolish the congestion charge. Not only is it an unfair tax, it costs
over £5.50 of every £8 to collect and it simply does not work.
Nobody likes congestion but it is a
London wide problem that requires London wide solutions.
I believe that Londoners want choice
rather than charges, they want a world class public transport system
that is both flexible and responsive to their needs. They want policies that rise to
challenge of global warming rather than just
levy new taxes.
The congestion charge is a
manifestation of a wider problem. Of politicians who are out of touch, who
do not listen, who prefer to treat the symptoms of problems rather than
their underlying causes.
I believe in good government, public
service that gives rather than takes, that listens rather than commands,
that delivers rather than postures, that frees rather than controls.
We must cut waste and cut taxes.
I believe the time has come to reassert
simple truths.
Democracy matters, people matter – your
views count. Voting to abolishing the congestion charge sends a very powerful
message. It is one that voters can no longer be taken for granted, that
they want real solutions to real problems rather than half baked schemes
that just make things worse.
London deserves better. London can have
better. Better transport, better policing, better councils. If you elect
me to the London Assembly I will
work to give you the best that local government should and can provide.
I can only win with your support. The
oxygen of politics is money. If you want to get rid of the congestion
charge please donate to the campaign.
If you live outside London please also
contribute. London’s fight is your fight, a large vote to abolish the congestion
charge here will make it politically impossible to introduce elsewhere.
Support the campaign and get your
friends to do the same. It is in the interests of everyone that bad
government is defeated. With your help we will succeed in not only
consigning the congestion charge to scrap heap of history but will open
a new chapter for our city and, I believe, our country." |
