Fairer taxes
We believe that the Council Tax is inherently unfair. Londoners already
pay too much tax, our aim is to abolish the Council Tax for all. In the
short term we must cut the level of Council Tax and give people an
opportunity to opt out of the Olympic Levy.
Exempting pensioners
At a first step we should scrap the Council Tax for pensioners. To
help finance this exemption we will embark on a radical programme to cut
the waste and bureaucracy that is rampant in local government. We will
campaign to reform local councils and bring local government into the
twenty-first century.
Spending London's money in London.
London and the South East subsidise Scotland, the North and Wales, literally at the
expense of Londoners and London's public services. We will campaign to
reverse this unfair treatment, returning up £30bn a year to the
capital and its supporting infrastructure.
Our plans do not necessarily mean that other parts of the UK will lose
out. It is time for central government to put its house in order. The
Taxpayers Alliance estimate that nearly £100bn is wasted each year.
Cutting business rates
We wish to encourage small businesses in London, not make life more
difficult for them. We must abolish small business rates and cut regulation to
help businesses succeed.
