Defeating congestion charging in London will pull the rug from
plans to introduce it and new variants such as road pricing in
other parts of the United Kingdom.
Initially, the Government wants congestion charging introduced
in ten new areas. These are Birmingham, Bristol and Bath,
Cambridge, Durham, the East Midlands (Nottingham, Derby and
Leicester), Manchester, Norwich, Reading, Shrewsbury, and
Tyne & Wear.
A rejection by London would make it politically impossible to
introduce elsewhere. |
